How much meat and food per person for a BBQ?

Calculate meat, fish, vegetarian food, snacks, bread and sides for small or large BBQ groups.

For a mixed BBQ, plan roughly 300 to 400 grams of total main-course food per adult. With plenty of bread, salads, vegetables and snacks, 250 to 300 grams may be enough. Start with 150 to 250 grams for children.

01

Define the style of BBQ

A continuous mixed grill needs more individual portions than a menu with one main dish. Count the whole menu rather than using one fixed number of meat pieces.

02

Quantities per guest

Plan 300 to 400 grams of meat, fish and vegetarian mains per adult and 150 to 250 grams per child. Include bone, trimming and cooking loss for large cuts.

03

Sides and snacks

Allow roughly 200 to 300 grams of salads, vegetables, potatoes and bread combined. For a long drinks session, three to five small bites per person per hour is a useful start.

04

Buy smartly

Ask about children and dietary needs, reuse ingredients across dishes and keep a small uncooked reserve chilled instead of placing everything outside at once.
